Job Description

The In-Office Property Claims Adjuster is responsible for investigating, adjusting, and concluding complex property claims within an inside claims team, based on existing coverage under the insurance contract; assisting insureds; cultivating good customer relations; answering questions from independent adjusters and agents; and overseeing the activities of independent adjusters. This position is an inside claims position, although a hybrid work from home environment is available.

Essential Duties:

  • Investigates, adjusts, and concludes property claims in a timely manner, based on existing coverage under the insurance contract
  • Assists insureds and cultivates good customer relations by performing the following duties:
  • Examines policy to verify coverage
  • Investigates cause of loss and documents information in the file
  • Obtains evidence if fraud or subrogation is involved
  • Establishes reserve or reviews the current reserve for accuracy
  • Reviews report of independent adjuster findings and concludes settlement with insured
  • Applies policy language within scope of authority
  • Prepares properly documented file for data entry and payment issuance
  • Ensures that proper letters are sent to insured during and at the conclusion of the claim
  • Pursues salvage and subrogation, if applicable
  • Answers questions from independent adjusters and agents regarding coverage
  • Oversees the activities of independent adjusters
  • Actively pursues continuing education, maintains licensing requirements as needed
  • Discusses claims above settlement authority, submits authority reporting to management as needed
  • Ensures that reinsurance and large loss reports are made
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and education or experience beyond high school
  • Formal training in investigation and claims adjusting
  • Experience adjusting claims using ISO forms
  • Experience adjusting commercial and farm policy claims
  • Minimum of five (5) years of claims adjusting experience
  • Construction experience or demonstrated understanding of building construction principles
  • Property estimating software (Xactimate) proficiency
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Thorough knowledge of claims law
  • First party claims litigation and subrogation claim experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and communication skills

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
